Firm Overview

I have been practicing law in Monroe since October 1993. During the past twenty years I have had the opportunity to represent numerous clients in a variety of legal matters. In my early years before 1998, I spent much of my time as an attorney in court which created in me a comfort with being in court and in front of juries. I specialized during that time in criminal defense law, domestic relations, commercial litigation and personal injury cases.

In 1998, I began representing insurance companies as part of my practice and have continued to represent insurance companies since that time. I began working with the firm of Crawford and Anzelmo in early 1998 where I worked until the latter part of 2002. While at Crawford and Anzelmo, I learned the practice of civil litigation with an emphasis on insurance defense. During my time at Crawford and Anzelmo, I represented workers' compensation insurers, automobile insurers, homeowners insurers, medical malpractice insurers and business insurers. In 2002, I left Crawford and Anzelmo and started the firm of Deal and Wheeler. At Deal and Wheeler, civil litigation including insurance defense was the primary focus of our practice.

Since 1998, in addition to representing insurance companies, I have continued to represent businesses, individuals and public entities in liability claims, contract disputes and collections. I have always sought to aggressively represent my clients. I want them to feel that I am fully committed to representing them in their legal action and will aggressively pursue their interests.

In 2007 I formed my firm, Law Office of K. Douglas Wheeler, APLC. In addition to the cases that I had been handling, I added environmental litigation to my practice. This litigation includes the representation of businesses and individuals in claims for environmental damage to their property from underground storage tanks, pipelines and historical oil and gas operations.

In the last twenty years, I have litigated and tried cases across much of Louisiana involving, public entity liability, automobile accidents, homeowner's claims, medical malpractice, workers' compensation claims, premise liability, highway defects, pipeline explosions, property disputes, and environmental property damage claims. Having this wide variety of experience in litigating different types of civil cases has prepared me to represent you, your company or family in virtually any type of civil litigation.
